Below is a paper model, built during some time off on a picnic table in Mt. Rainier National Park. It is about 1 foot in diameter and made from colored copy machine paper.

After the paper model, a pentagon made from 1/8" plywood. Although only held together by a few pieces of
tape, it is surpringly strong.

A step further
What makes this different from the model above is that this one has 15 degree bevels all the way around instead of straight 90 degree cuts. As it turns out, the proper angle should be 10 degrees, something I found out by trial and error on a later model.
The latest 'innovation' in the process is the incorporation of jigs to make the triangles. Necessary! It took only about 5 minutes to cut out the triangles here. Since it will take a total of 40 triangles to make a half dome, time is important!
The only thing holding these 1/8" peices of plywood together is a bit of glue on the edges. Quite strong none the less.

This model is made from 1/4" plywood.
