Garden have too many rocks? A quick afternoon project, this contraption quickly filters out grass and rocks and leaves behind beautiful clean dirt. (In the winter months it can be used to tumble ticket in a raffle). The rope aids in sledding the sifter across the garden.

It started out without a handle, and you operated it by hand turning the drum. This turned out to be dirty business. Dirt in your shoes, and if the soil is dry, it would blow all over you.
Note the slot in the handle. The shaft was flatened on two sides and snuggly fits into the slot.

I opted for a sliding door. How many boxes have I made just using the wire mesh as its own door. The door never works right, so I decided to go first class this time.
The little machine takes a real beating. The neat handle I broke after about a half a row. So I replaced it with one made of pipe. Works so much better! If I were to make this again, the stand would be made of 2x4s instead of plywood. But I doubt I'll ever make it again. Live and learn.
